The Counselor is responsible for embracing and advancing the Catholic and Franciscan mission of the University by ensuring that all counseling activities and initiatives are consistent with the mission of the University and are implemented to achieve its goals. This position will provide comprehensive psychological counseling services to students, addressing remedial, preventive, and developmental needs. The Counselor relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks and works under close supervision of the Director of Counseling & Disability Services.

Responsibilities

JOB STANDARDS

  1. Mission Integration
    1. Actively engages the Catholic and Franciscan mission and identity of ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓÆµ by modeling the Franciscan values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting justice for the communities we serve, and integrating the Catholic and Franciscan intellectual traditions in programs, courses and services
  2. Ethical Practice and Supervision
    1. Participate in weekly supervision and staffing sessions to ensure continuity of care and adherence to ethical standards
  3. Counseling Services
    1. Provides personal and crisis counseling, including initial assessment, diagnoses, and treatment planning, while supporting the Franciscan mission of the University
  4. Crisis Intervention
    1. Address mental health emergencies promptly with effective crisis intervention strategies
  5. Program Development
    1. Designs and facilitates individual and group programming tailored to the specific needs of assigned graduate and undergraduate programs
  6. Supportive Environment Creation
    1. Cultivates a warm, supportive culture aligned with the University’s mission, encouraging holistic student development
  7. Departmental Collaboration
    1. Actively engages in Student Affairs departmental initiatives, activities, and events as a contributing team member
  8. Campus Education and Workshops
    1. Develops and delivers educational programs, workshops, and training to enhance awareness and understanding within the campus community
  9. Accessibility and Accommodation Support
    1. Assist students with accommodations or documented disabilities in compliance with federal regulations, advising stakeholders on reasonable academic accommodations
  10. Other Duties as Assigned
    1. Support various programs, events, and administrative tasks aimed at fulfilling institutional goals.
    2. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

At least two (2) years’ experience working in a counseling setting

EDUCATION

Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Education, or related field

TRAINING

Demonstrated ability to perform psychological assessment, crisis intervention assessment, remedial treatment and resolution

SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge and skill in Developmental Psychology, especially pertaining to the collage age population. Commitment to customer service and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

LICENSURE

Licensed as a counseling professional in Louisiana or license-eligible within six (6) months of hire date
