Dr. Brian Pedraza, Director of the Theology Program, is taking his passion for evangelization and family life beyond the classroom through two new major initiatives: contributing to a national Catholic catechetical institute and co-leading a podcast that explores the spiritual and practical journey of fatherhood.
Pedraza serves as a consultant for the Institute on the Catechism, an initiative by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) that supports catechetical leaders, diocesan officials, bishops and Catholic publishers across the country.
“Essentially, I help publishers and other creators of catechetical materials think through how best to make resources that hand on the faith accurately, but also in a way that draws people into personal and ecclesial encounters with the Lord,” he explained.
Closer to home, Pedraza is committed to Heart of the Father: A Dominus Project, a podcast he co-hosts with Deacon Michael Parker and Tim Hanley. The podcast aims to support and encourage fathers in their daily lives and spiritual roles.
“Heart of the Father: A Dominus Project gives people a glimpse into the genuine brotherhood of three men who are dads that take seriously the Church's call to be the primary educators of their children. Such an education is more than just classroom stuff and textbooks but apprenticing our kids in what it means to be virtuous, holy, and excellent people who love Christ and their neighbor and are witnesses to the world.”
Episodes dive into topics ranging from the importance of a father’s emotional vulnerability to the need of building community and dedicating time to one’s family.
Through both the Institute and the podcast, Pedraza’s work reflects a deep commitment to forming both minds and hearts, whether he’s speaking with bishops at a national convocation or connecting with everyday dads navigating family life and faith.
